Under the hood.
We use Mixpanel's HTTP Track and Engage APIs to fire events server-side. Each event carries the conversation context, the visitor's distinct ID (matched to your existing Mixpanel ID where possible), and any custom properties you configure. Identify calls fire on the moment visitor identity becomes known, so the Mixpanel profile inherits the chat history.
Set up in 6 steps.
- 01In your message.com workspace, open Integrations, then Mixpanel.
- 02Paste your Mixpanel Project Token. Find it in Mixpanel under Project Settings.
- 03Paste your Service Account credentials (for Engage API user-property updates).
- 04Pick which events to fire. Defaults cover the high-value ones.
- 05Map distinct_id source: anonymous visitor ID, identified email, or your own customer ID.
- 06Save. Events start flowing within a minute.
Questions people ask before they install.
How do you match Mixpanel distinct IDs to my existing users?
We use the customer email when known, your own customer ID when sent through identify, and the anonymous visitor ID as fallback. Mixpanel's identify_merge handles the stitching.
Will it blow up my Mixpanel MTU count?
It depends on volume. Chat events are usually a small fraction of total product events. Send a sample week first and check your MTU dashboard before turning everything on.
Can I send events to Mixpanel EU?
Yes. Paste your EU project token, we route to the EU ingestion endpoint.
Can I filter which conversations fire events?
Yes. Filter by channel, AI status, or tag in the dashboard before events are sent.
