01The program

The Message.com Verification program sends one-time verification codes (one-time passcodes, or OTPs) by text message when you ask for one in an application built on the Message.com platform.

Message.com LLC ("Message," "we," or "us") is the sole sender and the sole content provider for this program. Every message is a fixed-template verification code, delivered from a Message.com short code or toll-free number. We do not send marketing, promotions, recurring alerts, or conversational messages through this program. These SMS Terms supplement our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy; by requesting a code you agree to them.

02Definitions

  • Program, the Message.com Verification text-message service described on this page.
  • Code or OTP, a one-time numeric passcode we send to confirm that you control a phone number.
  • You or Subscriber, the person who requests a Code and who is the account holder or an authorised user of the mobile number entered.
  • Application, a website or app built on the Message.com platform that offers verification to its own users.
  • Carrier, a mobile network operator that delivers messages to your device.

03Eligibility

The Program is available for mobile numbers on supported United States carriers. You must be at least 18 years old, or have permission from a parent or guardian, and you must be the subscriber or an authorised user of the number you enter. Do not enter a phone number that is not yours.

04Consent and opt-in

You opt in by entering your own mobile number in an Application's verification step and tapping a button such as "Send code" or "Verify my number." That action is your consent to receive a verification text. We send one message per request.

We never message you unless you ask for a Code, we never add your number to a marketing list, and we do not buy, import, or otherwise obtain numbers to message unprompted.

05How codes work, and how to stay safe

Each Code is single-use and expires a short time after it is sent (typically within 10 minutes). A Code only confirms that you control your phone number. It is not a payment, a charge, or a contract.

Treat your Code like a password. Message.com, our staff, and legitimate Applications will never call, text, or email you to ask you to read back, forward, or share a verification code. If anyone asks you to share a Code, it is a scam. Do not share it, and report it to [email protected].

06Message frequency

One message per verification request you make. How often you receive a message depends entirely on how often you choose to sign in or verify your number. There is no recurring or scheduled messaging.

07Fees

Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile plan. Message.com does not charge you for verification texts.

08Opt out (STOP)

Reply STOP to any message to opt out. You will receive one final confirmation text, after which you will not receive further messages from the Program. You can opt back in at any time by replying START. Because opting out stops us from delivering Codes, it may prevent you from signing in to Applications that rely on text verification.

09Help (HELP)

Reply HELP to any message for assistance, email [email protected], or call (844) 600-8444.

10Keeping your number current

Provide an accurate mobile number and keep it current with the Applications you use. If you change or give up your number, update or remove it in those Applications. Carriers sometimes reassign a phone number to a new person, so keeping your details current helps ensure that Codes do not reach a previous holder of a number.

11Delivery and supported carriers

The Program is supported on major United States wireless carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, among others. Message delivery depends on your Carrier and is not guaranteed. Messages may be delayed or undelivered for reasons outside our control, including coverage, roaming, and device settings. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. If a Code does not arrive, most Applications let you request another or verify by an alternative method such as a voice call or email.

12Privacy and data retention

We use your phone number only to deliver the Code you requested and to keep delivery and fraud-prevention records. We retain verification and consent records (the number, a timestamp, delivery status, and the fact of opt-in or opt-out) for as long as needed to prevent fraud and to meet Carrier and legal requirements, generally up to four years for consent records. We do not sell your phone number and we do not share it for marketing. Only the Carriers and messaging-infrastructure providers required to deliver your message process it, and solely for that purpose. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

13Governing terms and disputes

These SMS Terms supplement and are governed by our Terms of Use, including its governing-law, arbitration, and class-action-waiver provisions, which are incorporated here by reference. Where these SMS Terms and the Terms of Use differ specifically about the Program, these SMS Terms control for the Program.

14Changes

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be posted on this page before they take effect.
