Under the hood.
We connect through PayPal's OAuth flow with read and refund scopes. Transaction lookups call PayPal's REST API live. Refunds and subscription cancellations call the live API with the OAuth session your business authorized at install. Dispute and chargeback webhooks open a ticket in Message automatically.

- 01In your message.com workspace, open Integrations, then PayPal.
- 02Click Connect PayPal. You will be redirected to PayPal's OAuth flow.
- 03Authorize the requested scopes (read transactions, read subscriptions, write refunds optional).
- 04Pick whether to connect a Live or Sandbox account.
- 05Configure the refund policy: max amount per refund, max per customer per month, escalation rules.
- 06Save. The integration starts working immediately.
Questions people ask before they install.
Will the AI issue PayPal refunds without human approval?
Only within the cap you set. Default is $30 per refund, 1 per customer per month. Anything above escalates.
Does it work with PayPal subscriptions (recurring billing)?
Yes. The AI can pull subscription status, pause, and cancel. New-subscription creation goes through your normal checkout flow.
What about PayPal disputes?
Every new dispute or chargeback opens a ticket in Message with the transaction details attached. Agents can respond from inside the inbox.
Can I use this alongside Stripe?
Yes. Most stores run both. The AI checks both providers when looking up a transaction by email.
