Telegram
Route bots and channels to the same AI agent that handles your website chat.
About the integration.
Telegram has over a billion monthly active users and is the dominant messenger in many markets. Our integration uses the Telegram Bot API to route messages from a Telegram bot, channel, or group into your message.com inbox. The same AI that answers your website chat answers your Telegram bot, grounded in the same knowledge base.
What you get on day one.
- ✓Official Telegram Bot API (no MTProto user-account hacks).
- ✓Bots, channels, and groups all routable into the inbox.
- ✓Inline keyboards and reply keyboards supported.
- ✓Media attachments (photos, video, voice, documents) supported both ways.
- ✓Same AI as your website chat, grounded in the same KB.
- ✓No per-message Telegram fees (the Bot API is free).
Under the hood.
You create a bot with BotFather inside Telegram, paste the bot token into the message.com dashboard, and the integration takes over. Inbound messages stream via long-polling or webhooks (your choice, webhooks recommended). Replies go back through the Telegram Bot API. Groups and channels can be added as additional sources, with their own routing rules.
Set up in 6 steps.
- 01Open Telegram and message @BotFather. Send /newbot and pick a name and username.
- 02BotFather will return a bot token. Copy it.
- 03Open Integrations, Telegram in your message.com workspace.
- 04Paste the bot token. Pick webhooks (recommended) or long-polling.
- 05Optional: add the bot to a group or channel and grant it the right permissions.
- 06Save. Messages to the bot start landing in the inbox within seconds.
Questions people ask before they install.
Do I need Telegram Premium?
No. The Bot API is free for everyone. Premium is a consumer feature, not a business one.
Can the bot operate in a group chat?
Yes. Add the bot to a group and grant it message-read permission. The bot can listen, reply, or both.
What about Telegram Channels (broadcast)?
Channels are supported for outbound broadcast. Replies are not native to channels (Telegram's design), but you can route channel comments via a linked discussion group.
Is there a message rate limit?
Yes. Telegram caps outbound at roughly 30 messages per second per bot. We queue and pace outbound automatically to stay within limits.
