Mailchimp is the long-standing email-marketing default for SMB and ecommerce. Our integration syncs contacts to your Audience, tags subscribers from chat behavior, and triggers Customer Journeys when conversation events fire. Visitors who chat get pulled into the right campaign without your team touching a spreadsheet.

Under the hood.
We use Mailchimp's Marketing API with an OAuth connection. New chat contacts are pushed as subscribers with the tags and merge fields you configure. Customer Journey triggers fire via Mailchimp's webhook-style event endpoints. The integration respects your Audience's GDPR and opt-in settings, so no unsubscribed visitor gets re-added.

- 01In your message.com workspace, open Integrations, then Mailchimp.
- 02Click Connect Mailchimp and authorize the OAuth scopes.
- 03Pick the default Audience for new chat contacts.
- 04Map fields: email is required, plus merge fields (first name, last name, LTV).
- 05Configure auto-tag rules: which chat behaviors map to which Mailchimp tags.
- 06Save. New contacts start syncing to Mailchimp within seconds.
Questions people ask before they install.
Will it add chat visitors who did not opt in?
Only if you tell it to. The default is to require an explicit opt-in (a chat field, a checkbox, or an existing customer record). GDPR and double opt-in on the Audience are always respected.
Can I sync to multiple Audiences?
Yes. Set per-conversation routing rules: a sales-tagged chat goes to one Audience, a support-tagged chat goes to another.
Does it work with Mailchimp's free plan?
Yes, within Mailchimp's free-plan contact limits. Customer Journeys require a paid plan, but tagging and sync work on Free.
What about Mailchimp transactional (Mandrill)?
Mandrill is a separate add-on. We do not currently send through Mandrill, only through the standard Marketing API.
