Under the hood.
We use Klaviyo's V2 events API with a private API key. Each conversation event becomes a Klaviyo event with full context: channel, AI status, tags, and any custom properties. Profile properties update via Klaviyo's profile API. The integration matches Klaviyo profiles by email, then by phone, then by external ID.

- 01In your message.com workspace, open Integrations, then Klaviyo.
- 02Paste your Klaviyo Private API Key. Find it in Klaviyo under Settings, then API Keys.
- 03Pick which events to fire and map them to Klaviyo event names.
- 04Map profile properties: which conversation fields update the Klaviyo profile.
- 05Configure identity matching: email first, then phone, then external ID.
- 06Save. Events start flowing within a minute.

How is this different from the Klaviyo Shopify integration?
Klaviyo's Shopify integration tracks store events (viewed product, abandoned cart, ordered). This adds chat events alongside them. Same profile, more triggers.
Can I trigger a Flow when an AI conversation goes badly?
Yes. The AI fires an escalated event with a sentiment property. Build a Flow that triggers on that event and sends a recovery email.
Does it work with Klaviyo SMS?
Yes. Profile phone numbers from chat sync to Klaviyo and feed your SMS Flows.
Will it count against my Klaviyo profile quota?
Profiles are matched, not duplicated. We only create a Klaviyo profile if one does not already exist for that email or phone.
