What is CCaaS?
CCaaS (Contact Center as a Service) is cloud-delivered contact-center software billed as a subscription. It bundles ACD, IVR, omnichannel routing, workforce management, and analytics into one product so a business does not have to assemble these from separate vendors.
What is bundled
The minimum: ACD with skill-based routing, IVR, omnichannel queue, recording, reporting. Most CCaaS products also include WFM and quality monitoring. Larger products add AI features (intent classification, agent assist, deflection bots) and CRM integrations.
CCaaS vs on-premise
Pre-cloud, contact centers ran on hardware switches inside a customer's data center. Maintenance and upgrades took weeks. CCaaS replaces this with multi-tenant SaaS: capacity adjusts in real time, upgrades happen continuously, and a small business can spin up overnight.
Examples and pricing
Five9, NICE inContact, Genesys Cloud, and Talkdesk are classic CCaaS vendors. Pricing typically runs $75 to $150 per agent per month. message.com targets the same use cases at a lower price point with the unified inbox at the center.
